Conclusion of Traditional Games

This Batu Seremban heritage had mould  a part of the lives of our ancestors in all kind of the cultures in Malaysia. The basic essence that can ensure the continuity of this traditional game is the uniformity of the ways of lives of our ancestors. They had been familiarized with these circumstances since their childhood. Some of the traditional games are not being played anymore these days, they just memories that are only known by our parents and grandparents. However, youngsters nowadays still play some of them just like this Batu Seremban game in order to pass on our cultures and heritage for future generations.

How to Play Batu Seremban


Step 1:
Throw all 5 stones. Whilst throwing a stone, pick up 1 stone and catch the stone in the air before it falls to the ground. Do this for each of the stones on the ground.

Step 2:
Repeat step 1 but pick up 2 stones at a time.

Step 3:
Repeat step 1 but pick up a combination of 3 stones and 1.

Step 4:
Throw all 5 stones. Pick up 4 stones whilst 1 stone is in the air and catch the later before it falls to the ground.

Step 5:
Whilst throwing 1 stone, place the 4 on the ground. Throw 1 stone up again and catch it whilst picking all 4 stones on the ground.

Step 6:
Throw all 5 stones on the ground. The opponent selects a stone to be thrown in the air. The player has to pick this stone without moving any others. The player throws the stone in the air and picks the remaining on the ground in one clean sweep.

If at any point of time the player fails to complete this set of 6 steps, he will have to forfeit his turn to his opponent. Upon his opponent's failure to complete, he will return to the incomplete step, starting from the very beginning of that step.

Objects Used to Play Batu Seremban

The game of Batu Seremban was then played in by 5 or 7 pieces of object, made of (usually)small stone, beads, fruit seeds; beans, nut or nutshell, or even bones and hard wood (originally)but not until today, still and popular by marble or small bag of sand/stone or beans. It all depends on the players to choose which objects that they prefer to use as for their own comfort and enjoyment of playing the game.

Still, both are used to play Batu Seremban. It's all up to the players choice.


About the Game


A self regulated game imposed by the oldies with regards to their local ethnic group understanding pertaining to the rules and regulation in each and every round of match,
a studied found a differ match and rules in each and every ethnic respectively. Sometimes, even the stones used are also different according to each of the local ethnic and customs.

However, the game play is very similar. It goes with the same game play patterns. The game is played by any numbers of players as to grab the highest score in every round with resulted of discard one players after each and every round as penalty or fine for losers until last two and of course one would come out as champion and rewarded accordingly.

It is a historical and legacy kind of traditional game, unique, fantastic and universal. Inherited all the way from great grand generation of ancestors long before world of civilisation.

Believed to be found and practiced or popular in area of Malaya (Malaysia),Philiphines and all part of Malaya and Indonesia and it's sorrounding islands,Palau(Pulau), Micronesian, far east pacific islands; Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Fiji, Cocos Island,  Guam and so on, Southern Asia plate and Indian continent, Indochina and northern pacific area, by Burma, Laos and Cambodia aborigines,

Also being played and popular by Inuit and Eskimo in Northern part of Canada, east and west Siberia and Shakalin Island, found evidence in southern and eastern part of Africa, played by nomadic, Taureg and Badwin, Central America by Inca and Maya inhabitant, by the Red Indian on top of Andes plattue of southern America, Chile, Bolivia and Peru tribes.

It would rather played then by female or old women as way of life or an entertainment within their group ethnic and community and neighborhood as past time activity in their elderly and early ethnic generation before passed down to the young female children specifically.
